Hallowe'en

fiddlehead ghosts march up 6th avenue

finger popping, shuffle dancing

two heads, no heads, heads on platters,

horns and coifs and garterbelts

men on stilts and six man puppets

mickey, butthead, popeye, captain crunch

star wars, star treck , everyone a star or wearing a star

or a scar, blood, scales, pus, bandages, crutches,

wheel chairs, roller blades, skate boards, flash bulbs,

tulle moth heads, felt bat heads,

feathers and sequins and slathers of grease,

while behind a thick blue serge of officers

a spangled child waves from the shoulders of her father,

fat legs clamped tight around his bald head.
