Calliope

I'd like to trade stories with a bozo on a red vinyl barstool,
I'd like to lie naked on clean sheets in a room with a fan.
I'd like to sip coffee sitting next to the dog on the back porch.
I want to start over, but darling, I don't want to stop.

I want to eat fruit in the lake and not mind where the juice goes,
I want to get held from behind like a hand in a palm,
I want to watch daybreak states away through a gold-tinted
           windshield
I've been here a life-time, but darling, I'm not here for good.

I'm here to hear tunes in my head, while I stare out the window,
I'm here to make note of the first sign of the first day of spring.
I'm writing to you cause I know that you have no illusions,
I want to write, "I love you," but only 'cause it's a country-western
           world
