Coming soon, a global women's pro verse
Circuit. Home viewers will set timers
to access simultanious games world wide.
You and I and everypoet else
Will recall our youth, up at six
to practice rhymed iambics in the chill dawn,
pacing the lawn, batting phrases by;
We who now try to find a spare
moment to write, will stare at the daring youth
who chose to give their lives to art for the season;
A reasonable person wouldn't, but these birds
still want to be heard again, loud and clear.
Lounging beside us our dear non-poet friends
will attend more to the muscles and attitude
the poets exude, each girl having trained hard
to win her Grand Slam card, each at peak strength,
presenting the human female, responding, risking,
in frisky Nike outfits, stretching, pounding,
hitting rebounds in rhythm, sweating freely
in the tree-leaf-etched light of the full moon.
